School Health
Holy Cross Health’s Community Health & Well-Being’s School Health program provides the staff and services to prepare children for the upcoming school year. Over 3,000 students benefit from this program annually in the Broward County parochial schools and within our community.
Health Screenings
During the school year, a Registered Nurse can be found providing vision, hearing, and scoliosis screenings on-site at the local parochial schools. Students ranging from kindergarten to 6th grade are screened according to school health guidelines. All students who do not meet the minimum requirement to pass the screenings are referred to their pediatrician or specialist for follow-up.
Education
The nurse provides multiple educational opportunities to the school faculty, such as Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR/First Aid certification and bloodborne pathogen training. The students are also offered a series of educational presentations to enrich their knowledge on handwashing, hygiene, puberty, dental health, and more.
Immunizations
We work in cooperation with local public and private schools to offer immunization record compliance review so children can enroll in school each year. We are committed to keeping our children healthy by participating in the Vaccines for Children (VFC) Program through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). If your child is Medicaid-eligible, Medicaid-enrolled, or uninsured our department can assist you in obtaining the required vaccinations for your child. Vaccinating on time means healthier children, families, and communities.
