Health Promotion & Wellness


Community Health and Well-Being's work includes Health Promotion and Wellness.

Programming provides support, training and encouragement of individuals in the pursuit of well-being in all dimensions of a life, including Social, Physical, Emotional, Occupational, Intellectual, Environmental and Spiritual. Goals of programming:

  • Increasing awareness and knowledge of health and wellness issues, including: 

  1. Alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs 
  2. Body image and eating disorders 
  3. Nutrition and being active 
  4. Resilience and mindfulness 
  5. Healthy relationships 
  6. Stress and sleep 
  • Promoting healthy behaviors 
  • Providing health education services, programs, information, and materials to students 
  • Wellness and stress management training for teachers. 

Group level health education classes for school age children and youth: 

Healthy Snacks (all age youth) 

  • Students engage by creating their own healthy snack. Nutrition tips are discussed as the students enjoy the snack that they made. 

Mindfulness and Diaphragmatic Breathing (all ages) 

  • Daily practice of deep breathing daily can help sleep and overall health.  
  • Students spend 30 minutes learning diaphragmatic breathing (breathing in calm, exhaling peace. Students practice mindfulness to relieve stress and anxiety. 

 Yoga for Teens (middle & high school ages) 

  • The focus of this 30-minute yoga program is to improve flexibility and strength by utilizing traditional stretching, balance and yoga postures. Yoga is appropriate for all students as well as adults regardless of fitness levels. This is a great way to warm up before a run, bike ride, workout, gardening or chores. Stay on your feet as you improve your flexibility. 

Yoga for Adults including Chair Yoga 

  • The focus of this 30-minute yoga program is to improve flexibility and strength by utilizing traditional stretching, balance and yoga postures. Yoga is appropriate for all age groups regardless of fitness levels. Classes are also available for those with limited ability to balance and are taught in chairs. Yoga is a great way to warm up before a run, bike ride, workout, gardening or chores. Yoga is a good way to maintain and/or improve flexibility. 

MELT (adult) 

  • MELT Method is a gentle self-care technique that enhances mobility, stability, and performance and is clinically proven to reduce chronic pain while restoring overall wellbeing.
