 Bio-Genetic Marker Testing

We can order special blood tests called Bio Markers which help identify the severity of your risk factors for having a stroke or heart attack:

  • Inflammation markers
  • Insulin resistance or glucose tolerance
  • Lipids
  • Genetics
  • Vitamin level
  • Hormones

InBody BIA Body Composition Analyzer

This scale measures more than just weight.  It analyzes muscle, body fat and hydration levels.

CIMT (Carotid Intima-Media Thickness UltraSound) from CardioRisk

High cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, smoking, diabetes, and obesity will thicken the layers of the heart wall.  Dr. Lesser may order a special ultrasound test that determines the thickness of the layers of your heart's wall.  It also measures the degree of inflammation of the arterial wall and the size of the plaque which causes heart disease.  There is no preparation for this test and it is done in our office.

Coronary Calcium Score

Our neurologists may order a 3D image of the heart and its vessels to check the level of calcium deposits.  Calcified plaque in the coronary arteries (arteries that supply blood to the heart) can lead to a stroke or heart attack.

Work with other programs at Holy Cross Health

We can refer patients to free programs offered at Holy Cross Health, such as the Diabetes Prevention Program, the Metabolic Clinic or Tobacco Free Florida.  We can also make arrangements for sleep studies to check for sleep apnea.
