The Joint Commission recommends that an IV thrombolytic be administered within 60 Minutes after a patient arrives to a hospital. Holy Cross strives to do better and routinely gives eligible patients this life saving medication within 30 Minutes of arrival to the Emergency Department.
The Joint Commission recommends that a catheter be placed in the brain to remove a blood clot (a stroke) within 90 Minutes of an eligible patient's arrival to the hospital. The desired benchmark is 50%.
Door to Reperfusion tracks the time a patient arrives to the emergency department until the blood clot in the brain is removed and blood flow is returned.
Rate of Substantial Reperfusion is the percentage of patients whose blood flow to the brain returns to normal after a mechanical thrombectomy.
Stroke Mortality Rates. Lower is better.
This is the percentage of stroke patients whose death is within 30 days of admission to our hospital.

To improve patient care, we are expanding our stroke follow-up clinic to two sessions a week. We have added an additional Provider and expanded patient and family member educational opportunities.
