ALS Center of Excellence

The Phil Smith Neuroscience Institute at Holy Cross Health's ALS Clinic has been named one of only five Certified Treatment Centers of ExcellenceSM in Florida by the ALS Association.

To become certified as a center of excellence, each clinic must meet The ALS Association's clinical care and treatment standards, based on AAN Practice Parameters, participate in ALS-related research and successfully complete a comprehensive site review.

Holy Cross Health opened the Phil Smith Neuroscience Institute and Phil Smith ALS and Movement Disorders Clinic in 2018. More than 15 neurologists and rehabilitation specialists at the Phil Smith Neuroscience Institute provide comprehensive neurological and neurosurgical care for a variety of conditions. It is the only specialized care for ALS patients in Broward and Palm Beach counties.

Since 1998, The ALS Association’s nationwide network of Certified Treatment Centers of Excellence has provided evidence-based, multi-disciplinary ALS care and services in a supportive atmosphere with an emphasis on hope and quality of life. The ALS Association Certified Treatment Center of Excellence Program designs, implements and monitors a national standard of best-practice care in the management of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

The ALS Association collaborates with some of the best ALS physicians and clinics across the U.S. to help ensure that people living with ALS have access to specialized care, based on best practices. The ALS Association’s Certified Treatment Centers of Excellence and Recognized Treatment Centers provide compassionate care in a supportive family-oriented atmosphere.
