Neuroradiology

Neuroradiology is the medical subspecialty that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of brain, spine, head and neck, and vascular lesions using x-rays, magnetic fields, radio waves, and ultrasound. These forms of energy are harnessed with machines such as the CT (Computerized Tomagraphy) scanner, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner and ultrasound machines.

Holy Cross Neuroscience Institute’s neuroradiology team provides comprehensive services in South Florida for diagnostic and interventional neuroradiology procedures. MRI techniques currently being performed include both structural and functional imaging, including diffusion and perfusion imaging and spectroscopy. CT angiography with arterial post-processing is routinely used for the non-invasive diagnosis of cerebrovascular disease and is combined with CT perfusion, especially in patients with acute stroke.

Neuroradiologists play an integral part of our patient care as they provide our specialists with the imaging needed to help the patient receive the highest level of care.

Interventional Neuroradiology

Holy Cross Neuroscience Institute’s neuroradiology team includes internationally renowned Neurointerventional Radiologist Laszlo Miskolczi, MD. Utilizing the advanced technology available in Holy Cross Hospital’s neurointerventional radiology suite, Dr. Miskolczi is able to increase the treatment window for acute stroke to up to eight hours when, historically, the treatment window was only available from zero to three hours. This combination of leading-edge technology and clinical expertise allows Dr. Miskolczi to treat a wide range of vascular issues, which include – but are not limited to - carotid artery disease, intracranial stenosis and brain aneurysms.
