New state-of-the-art CT scanner now available to patients in Wanda and Jim Moran, Jr. Emergency Department

Fort Lauderdale (November 5, 2025) - The state-of-the-art Philips Spectral CT 7500 is now open and available to patients at the newly named Wanda & Jim Moran, Jr. Emergency Department (ED). A transformational $6.5 million gift from philanthropists Wanda and Jim Moran, Jr. and the Wanda & Jim Moran Foundation enabled Holy Cross Health to make advancements to the ED and to purchase this CT scanner.

This generous contribution significantly elevates the hospital’s diagnostic capabilities and ability to better serve the community with enhanced emergency care. In recognition of one of the single largest donations in the hospital’s 70-year history, the ED was officially named in their honor during a celebration.

It has enabled us to enhance training and improve workflows,” said Taren O’Brien, MSN, RN, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer at Holy Cross Health. “The new CT scanner is already making a difference in how quickly we can respond to critical cases. Wanda and Jim Moran, Jr.’s support empowers our nurses to do what they do best, care deeply and act swiftly.”

Combined with previous contributions to Holy Cross, the couple’s support totals

$8 million. Their generosity will leave a legacy for generations to come and continues to uplift the entire community.
