Holy Cross Health Foundation Receives Second $500,000 Charitable Gift Annuity from Grateful Patient Didier Moritz
January 26, 2026
Fort Lauderdale, Florida (January 20, 2026) – Holy Cross Health Foundation is honored to share that grateful patient and donor Didier Moritz has made a second $500,000 donation to Holy Cross Health Foundation in the form of a Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA).
A CGA is a planned giving option that provides donors with guaranteed lifetime income while supporting causes they care about. After the donor’s passing, the remaining funds from the annuity directly benefit Holy Cross Health Foundation’s mission.
“Mr. Mortiz’s generosity is truly extraordinary,” said Laura Denoux, Vice President and Chief Development Officer of Holy Cross Health Foundation. “His commitment ensures that Holy Cross Health can continue delivering compassionate, high-quality care for years to come. We are honored to recognize his leadership and the lasting impact his gift will have on our community.”
With this donation, he is also raising awareness of Charitable Gift Annuities, which are a combination of a charitable gift and an annuity, providing a source of financial security for the donor. Annuity rates may exceed 7% or 8% for seniors, which makes CGAs appealing to financially savvy donors.
“Holy Cross Health is in a league of its own. Throughout the years during my golden age and retirement lifetime, I have had the blessing of receiving such an exceptional optimum care and services from all the excellent clinicians, nurses and health care workers, and I’ve had the opportunity to build a strong and trustworthy relationship with the Holy Cross Health Foundation,” Moritz said. “I hope to continue to inspire other donors to consider a CGA or to make a generous donation of any kind. Until my last breath, my wish is to have only $20 in my pocket, simply because my greatest dream and joy is seeing the impact and benefit of philanthropy on the community and others.”
Moritz made his first $500,000 Charitable Gift Annuity to Holy Cross Health Foundation in 2024, bringing his total giving today to $1 million. His gifts support the areas of greatest need through the “Special Needs of Holy Cross” fund, which ultimately advances future capital improvements at the hospital.
“This gift reflects not only Didier’s generosity, but also the kind of person he is,” said Rudy Molinet, RN, MPH, FACHE, Chair of the Holy Cross Health Board of Directors. “I have known him personally for several years and have seen firsthand his deep commitment to strengthening our community. His support will help ensure that our mission continues to thrive.”
Mortiz built a successful career in real estate and hospitality, owning hotels and restaurants before turning his focus to philanthropy. Beyond his generous support of Holy Cross Health, the Fort Lauderdale philanthropist supports several other organizations through Charitable Gift Annuities, including World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the National Park Foundation and The Nature Conservancy (TNC).
Moritz’s commitment to planned giving reflects a broader tradition of philanthropy that sustains Holy Cross Health’s Mission. To celebrate this generosity, the Foundation hosts its Evening of Gratitude each year, honoring those donors who make exceptional care possible through philanthropy. In early 2026, the Foundation will introduce the Holy Cross Health Legacy Society to honor and recognize those who have thoughtfully included Holy Cross Health in their estate plans through a planned gift. These generous donors help ensure that compassionate, high-quality care continues for generations to come. By joining the Legacy Society, supporters become part of a special group of visionaries whose commitment today creates a lasting impact on the future of health care.
