Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiologist Alexandra M. Sanchez, MD Joins Holy Cross Medical Group

Fort Lauderdale, Florida (September 29, 2025) – Holy Cross Health is adding to an already impressive list of heart and vascular care specialists with the announcement that clinical cardiac electrophysiologist Alexandra M. Sanchez, MD has joined the Holy Cross Medical Group, a multi-specialty physician-employed group of more than 180 physicians providing services throughout Broward County.
Dr. Sanchez’s focus areas include atrial fibrillation; complex cardiac ablations for atrial and ventricular arrhythmias; ventricular tachycardia and sudden cardiac arrest prevention; supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) ablations; cardiac device implantation and monitoring—including traditional and leadless pacemakers, defibrillators, subcutaneous ICDs, loop recorders, physiologic pacing, and heart failure optimization—left atrial appendage occlusion, women’s cardiovascular health, syncope, palpitations and preventive cardiology.
While completing her internal medicine internship and residency at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine at Holy Cross, Dr. Sanchez founded the Women’s Mentoring Program and co-founded the Cardiometabolic Clinic. She also served as a representative on the Graduate Medical Education and Resident Wellness Committees, as well as the Florida American College of Physicians (ACP) Resident Council. In 2019, the ACP Florida Chapter named her Resident of the Year for excellence in internal medicine. Dr. Sanchez also served on the Board of Directors of the Broward Community Medical Association, participated in the Adult Congenital Heart Clinic at Holy Cross, and completed an elective rotation at Cleveland Clinic Florida to gain additional experience in heart transplant management.
Dr. Sanchez then pursued fellowships in cardiology and clinical cardiac electrophysiology at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she was named Cardiology Fellow of the Year in 2023 and served as Chief Cardiology Fellow. She is an active member of the Heart Rhythm Society (HRS) and currently serves on its Communications Committee. In addition, she was selected for HRS’ Growth and Leadership Opportunity for Women in Electrophysiology (GLOWE) program, which focuses on advancing women’s leadership, collaboration, and professional development within the field of electrophysiology. Fluent in both English and Spanish, she values connecting with patients and colleagues across diverse communities.
Prior to earning her medical degree from Universidad Iberoamericana School of Medicine in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Dr. Sanchez graduated from Florida International University (FIU) with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. She was a recipient of the Florida Bright Futures Medallion Scholarship and a graduate of FIU’s Honors College.
Dr. Sanchez has contributed to numerous peer-reviewed articles and abstracts on topics including atrial fibrillation in patients with obesity, remote patient monitoring using leadless and wireless cardiac devices, and the connection between sleep apnea and atrial fibrillation. Her research has been published in leading cardiology journals. Notably, she was a co-author of “Dual vs Single Cardioversion of Atrial Fibrillation in Patients With Obesity: A Randomized Clinical Trial”, which was presented as a Late-Breaking Clinical Trial at the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions.
Board-certified in Cardiovascular Disease and Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Sanchez is a member of the Heart Rhythm Society, American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association. She is also a member of Phi Delta Epsilon International Medical Fraternity and Alpha Xi Delta.
