In June 2023, Denise was diagnosed with breast cancer. Originally from Boston, she moved to Fort Lauderdale in 2021. Without many friends or family in her new home, the diagnosis was a daunting experience. After seeking a second opinion, Denise decided to be treated at Holy Cross Health.

"Your breast cancer clinic was amazing! The hospital ran it so efficiently." Denise shared. The thoughtful and organized care at Holy Cross, where everyone visited her room with prior notice and minimized her wait time, was comforting.

Several individuals at Holy Cross stood out during Denise’s journey, and she extends her heartfelt gratitude to them.

Her breast cancer surgeon, who provided immense knowledge and reassurance. "I trusted her with my life and was really able to be calm because of her," Denise noted. The social worker who offered unwavering support and introduced Denise to Gilda's Club of South Florida, a resource that truly changed her life. The doctor who answered numerous questions and alleviated Denise's fears about radiation through thorough explanations. The dietitian who provided practical and friendly nutritional advice, making a significant impact on Denise's journey. The breast health navigator who was indispensable during the early, overwhelming stages of diagnosis.

In the radiation department, Denise found comfort in the care provided by the entire team. Their kindness and respect made her daily visits for 20 days something to look forward to. Denise also appreciated the two women at the radiology reception who brought a smile to her face every day.

"Of course, I would rather not have been diagnosed with breast cancer, but honestly, it is the best thing that has ever happened to me because it has changed my life for the better, and the people I mentioned above are the reason for it," Denise expressed. She thanks and appreciates each of them every day.
