Introducing the FamilyWize Prescription Savings Program
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Trinity Health has partnered with FamilyWize to implement an electronic prescription savings program.
How Does The FamilyWize Program Help Our Patients Afford Their Medications?
Since 2005, FamilyWize has acted like a large consumer buying group, passing on discounted medication prices via their free card and mobile app. They have helped over 10 million people save more than $1 billion! But there is more work to do:
-
31.8 million people still have no health insurance
-
57 percent of Americans report taking potentially dangerous steps to curb high medication costs
-
8.6 million people have purchased insurance with a high deductible
That’s why we have this new Prescription Safety Net strategy that helps our patients more easily afford their medications. A key part of our strategy is the integration of FamilyWize's emRxcel into our NextGen Healthcare EHRs. emRxcel helps pharmacists apply the free FamilyWize Prescription Discount Card to our patients’ prescriptions, ensuring that they pay the lowest possible price and increase their chances of remaining adherent.
If You Use NextGen - What It Means For You
Throughout the course of your day, you write multiple prescriptions for Trinity patients. When you fill out a prescription form in NextGen, the system will automatically add the Free FamilyWize Prescription Discount Card information into the “Notes” section. This will occur without any action on your part and will encourage the pharmacy to apply the FamilyWize discounted price to that prescription.
If a patient expresses concern over their prescription drug costs, please:
-
Let them know that the FamilyWize Prescription Safety Net program is there to support them. Even if the patient qualifies for Medicare or Medicaid prescription coverage, those prices still apply. The FamilyWize Prescription Discount Card is automatically applied to all prescriptions submitted via NextGen
-
Reference the QuickRx Guide (more details below) to check current prices of frequently prescribed medications
-
Direct your patients to FamilyWize.org where they can access the FamilyWize Drug Price Lookup Tool and Medicine Cabinet – robust, customizable search tools that enable users to search among local pharmacies for the lowest prices on their medications before they pick up their prescriptions.
