Philanthropist Jan Moran Donates $1 Million to New Women's Center
The Jan Moran Reception Suite named in her honor
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – December 13, 2010 - Holy Cross Hospital today announced a $1 million personal gift from Jan Moran, philanthropist and leading advocate for issues affecting children and families, in support of the new Dorothy Mangurian Comprehensive Women’s Center at Holy Cross HealthPlex. The Jan Moran Reception Suite will be named in her honor at the state-of-the-art medical facility which opened its first phase in August.
"Jan Moran is a visionary who understands the unique challenges women face and she has touched countless lives through her support of medical research and care, family literacy, childhood education and services combating domestic abuse," said Dr. Patrick Taylor, President and CEO of Holy Cross. "Her gift is a beautiful act of faithfulness to Holy Cross, the continuing work of the Sisters of Mercy and the women of this community."
Funded entirely through philanthropy, the $15 million, 55,000-square-foot Dorothy Mangurian Comprehensive Women’s Center features advanced breast imaging including digital mammography, minimally invasive diagnostic procedures, stereotactic breast biopsy, bone density studies and ultrasonography. Future plans for the Women’s Center include special programming, a medical spa, meditation chapel, lifestyle center, education center and a café.
"Women so often carry the responsibility as the primary caregivers of husbands, children and elderly parents, yet many may neglect their own health or face challenges when they become ill themselves. This wonderful new Women's Center will allow Holy Cross to continue providing its exceptional, compassionate care they are known for in an environment created especially for the physical and emotional well being of women," said Jan Moran.
At the Women’s Center, patients will develop a one-on-one relationship with a "Patient Navigator" who will answer questions, coordinate care with the patient’s physician and connect patients to resources.
Jan and her late husband Jim have a long history of supporting non-profit organizations that improve the lives of children and families. Among those are: the Jim Moran Heart and Vascular Center and the Jim Moran Heart and Vascular Research Institute at Holy Cross Hospital; The Jan Moran Collier City Learning Library; the Jim and Jan Moran Family Center at Women In Distress of Broward County; the Jim & Jan Moran Unit of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County; and many other community organizations.
