Cardiologist Dr. Vicente Font

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.Vicente Font, MD, FACC, FACP, FCCP, FASE, of the Holy Cross Medical Group has been approved and recertified by the National Board of Echocardiography (NBE) in Comprehensive Echocardiography. Echocardiography uses sound waves to make images of the heart. Transesophageal echocardiography passes the ultrasound probe down the throat in the esophagus, or food pipe. Comprehensive certification recognizes expertise in transthoracic, transesophageal and stress echocardiography.

A review of the NBE online directory shows that, as of the beginning of this year, only nine physicians in Broward County and less than 60 in the tri-county area hold the comprehensive echocardiography status. Dr. Font has been recertified underscoring his continued commitment to this special skill and the service provided by the non-profit hospital.

Dr. Font is a member of the multi-specialty team performing minimally invasive transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), which has earned a success rate higher than the national average for this leading-edge procedure. Having been the first hospital in Broward County to perform the procedure, Holy Cross has successfully performed over 75 TAVR procedures.

The NBE is a not-for-profit corporation established in 1996 to develop and administer examinations in the field of Clinical Echocardiography. The recertification denotes that Dr. Font has successfully passed the Examination of Special Competence in Adult Echocardiography exam, provided documentation of his education and level of service, and satisfied the other requirements.

Named the “Distinguished Physician 2004” by the Florida Medical Association, Dr. Font is a certified member of the American Board of Internal Medicine and holds its Cardiovascular Disease designation. In addition to being a member of the South Florida Echocardiography Society, he is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, American College of Physicians, American Society of Echocardiography and the American College of Chest Physicians.
