Wound Care Hyperbaric Chambers

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (October 16, 2014) – To provide the latest information and best practices utilizing available technology in advanced wound care treatment, Holy Cross Hospital presents its second annual Wound Care and Hyperbaric Conference on Saturday, October 25 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The conference is offered to healthcare professionals who work with wounds, including, but not limited to, physicians, nurses, clinical directors, case managers and any clinician interested in wound care. Continuing education nursing contact hours are available.

The symposium program includes: wound assessment presented by Nancy Morgan, RN, MBA, WOC, WCC, DWC, OMS; hyperbaric oxygen therapy presented by Cornelius Scannell, MD, MPH; Improving Blood Supply to the Ischemic Nonhealing Ulcer presented by Charles Tate, MD; and A Day in the Life of a Wound Center Nurse with Carlos Horcada, RN and Jessica Withum, RN, WCC.

The conference comes on the eve of the November observance of National Diabetes Month.  Every seven minutes across the nation, a diabetic receives amputation due to a condition which often began as a chronic wound. The disease slows blood to the legs impairing the ability to heal.  It can also cause nerve damage which prevents someone from realizing they have a wound.

A member of the Healogics network, the Holy Cross Hospital Wound Care and Hyperbaric Program is participating in the Healogics National Diabetes Campaign from October 27 to October 31.  Program directors across the nation will dedicate the entire week to visiting local physician offices to provide education to help staff identify diabetic patients with or at risk of having ulcers of the lower extremity.

The conference will be held in the Patricia R. Guerrieri Pavilion at Holy Cross HealthPlex located at 1000 N.E. 56th St. in Fort Lauderdale.  The fee for attending is $30 and $10 for students and includes breakfast and lunch. The program is free to Holy Cross Hospital Associates.
