FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (May 29,  2014) – Among 643 volunteers who collectively donated more than 122,000 hours of service to Holy Cross Hospital in 2013, Deerfield Beach resident James Dolan was honored as Holy Cross Hospital's 2013-2014 Volunteer of the Year.
“James brings his experience as a retired New York City police officer to his volunteer work, where his extensive background in organization and communication skills has endeared him to both Associates and his fellow volunteers," said Holy Cross Hospital President and CEO Patrick A. Taylor, M.D. “He represents the embodiment of excellence in volunteering with his friendly and pleasant manner and his cooperation to help in any way he can.”
Dolan was chosen among 12 Volunteer of the Month honorees recognized for their achievements, outstanding contributions, dedication and innovation, and excellence in guest relations. He volunteers in the hospital's post-anesthesia care unit in the surgery department, where he has become a valuable part of the recovery room team by assisting staff with transporting patients back to their rooms after surgery.  Additionally, he volunteers in the hospital's spiritual care department and visits patients to inform them about spiritual services offered.
Holy Cross honored Dolan during its recent Volunteer Appreciation and Service Awards Luncheon at the Bahia Mar Resort in Fort Lauderdale, which was attended by more than 200 of the hospital's volunteers.
