Fort Lauderdale resident Shirley Healy receives honor

Among 643 volunteers who collectively gave more than 122,000 hours of service to Holy Cross Hospital in 2012, Fort Lauderdale resident Shirley Healy was honored as the non-profit hospital's 2012-2013 Volunteer of the Year.

"One of the marks of success of any organization is cultivating people who are loyal and devoted, and after 23 years of service, Shirley certainly has shown her loyalty and devotion to Holy Cross Hospital," said Holy Cross Hospital President and CEO Patrick A. Taylor, M.D. "We appreciate Shirley and all of our volunteers and the time they dedicate to the mission of Holy Cross, serving patients and assisting our Associates."

Healy was chosen among 12 Volunteer of the Month honorees, who were nominated by their peers or associates for consistent achievement over a sustained period of time, a specific outstanding contribution, prudent use of human and financial resources, dedication and innovation, and excellence in guest relations. She volunteers in the hospital's spiritual care department, where she visits patients and serves as a Eucharistic minister.

Holy Cross honored Healy during its recent Volunteer Appreciation and Service Awards Luncheon at the Bahia Mar Resort in Fort Lauderdale. More than 200 of the hospital's volunteers attended the luncheon, which also honored Anna Windsor for 40 years of volunteer service, Jane Conti, Maxine Holzworth and Mary Kalis for 30,000 volunteer hours, and Elinor Stephens for serving 50,000 hours.
