FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Holy Cross Hospital is pleased to announce that Jonathan C. Levy, M.D., who serves as chief of orthopedics for the non-profit hospital and medical director of the Holy Cross Orthopedic Research Institute, has been elected as an active member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES), a prestigious medical society of leading national and international orthopedic surgeons who specialize in surgery of the shoulder and elbow.

Only experienced orthopedic surgeons who have completed a fellowship in shoulder surgery, elbow surgery and/or sports medicine are considered for membership in the organization, and candidates must meet strict academic and clinical requirements to become members. Membership in the organization is by invitation only.

Dr. Levy is the only fellowship trained shoulder surgeon in Broward County who exclusively practices shoulder and elbow surgery. He performs nearly 200 shoulder replacements and more than 150 arthroscopic rotator cuff surgeries each year. Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, Dr. Levy is an international speaker on shoulder and elbow disorders.

Dr. Levy has been on the leading-edge of research and development of the next generation of shoulder replacement devices and is South Florida’s most experienced surgeon in reverse shoulder replacements. He performed the first reverse shoulder replacement in the nation utilizing the recently FDA-approved Match Point System, which is designed to assist surgeons in positioning the shoulder socket component and is involved in national and international surgeon training for this procedure. Dr. Levy, who has published more than 35 peer-reviewed publications, serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma and Orthopaedics Today.

In 2011, Holy Cross established the Holy Cross Orthopedic Research Institute to advance the field of orthopedics through high-quality clinical and basic science, research and education.
