Hello! I’m Andi Tillis and this is Ask the Doc with Holy Cross Hospital. Joining me is Dr. Laszlo Miskolczi, a neurointerventional radiologist at Holy Cross Hospital. Hello, doctor. Welcome!

Hello Andi.

Tell me, what is a neurointerventional radiologist?

Well, I’m a board certified radiologist who has a subspecialty. I treat patients with blood vessel disorders of the brain without cutting, without opening the skull.

And what are the most common disorders you treat?

I treat patients with acute or not so acute disorders. In the acute group, we treat patients with stroke, either with bleeding or without bleeding and in those patients who do not have an acute disorder, we treat patients with blood vessel diseases of the brain that later may lead to some sort of a stroke.

And all of this without cutting?

All of them without cutting.

That’s amazing. What sets you and the Holy Cross team apart from other teams at other hospitals?

I may simply answer this question just the state of the art technology, but I also have to add that it is probably more important to have the team that we have at Holy Cross, a team that follows the patient seamlessly from the moment they came to the emergency room to the moment when they leave the hospital.

And what’s the best advice on the easiest ways to avoid needing a neurointerventional radiologist in the first place?

Well, just keep a healthy lifestyle, eat healthy, don’t eat too much sugar, fat, cholesterol, and don’t smoke.

Thank you, that’s great advice.

Thank you.
