Now Offering Aquatic Therapy

Holy Cross Hospital has partnered with the City of Pompano Aquatics Center to provide Aquatic Therapy. Aquatic Therapy is ideal for those who experience difficulty exercising on hard surfaces and a very effective addition to conventional land therapy.

Holy Cross physical therapists will rehabilitate you in a warm, gentle environment to improve fluidity of gait, joint range of motion and balance. They work with you to strengthen the core/extremities, all while decreasing pain and swelling.

BENEFICIAL PROPERTIES OF WATER

Buoyancy – floating in the water allows you to exercise with up to 90 percent of body weight removed. This decreases painful joint forces and fear of falling.

Temperature – the warmth of the water results in relaxation and pain reduction by inhibiting pain pathways.

Turbulence – imparts safe and gentle forces on the body to help improve your balance and core stability.

Resistance – the “thickness” of the water allows gentle and progressive resistance to improve joint motion/strength.

Hydrostatic Pressure – the pressure exerted on your body can assist with the return of blood to your heart from your legs while exercising.
