The Dorothy Mangurian Comprehensive Women’s Center at Holy Cross HealthPlex offers digital mammography services in Fort Lauderdale. Mammography is an X-ray that provides the sharpest images available of the breast's inner structure. The advanced screening capability of a mammogram greatly improves survival of women because it detects much smaller tumors than those that can be felt by women themselves or by the most experienced physicians. Early detection is key in fighting cancer before it can spread to other parts of the body.

Holy Cross HealthPlex has been designated as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The ACR recognizes breast imaging centers that have earned accreditation in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast MRI and breast ultrasound (including ultrasound-guided breast biopsy).
Mammography patients who are new to Holy Cross will have added peace of mind by having their prior films digitized when they arrive for their mammogram so that our radiologists may view them in our PACS system for comparison and retention. By digitizing films, patients can leave with their original films, which most patients find comforting.

Why are mammograms important?
If breast cancer is detected early, before it spreads, 98 percent of the women will be alive five years later. The earlier it's discovered, the earlier it's treated and the better the chance of survival. Mammography is also of value because it shows other changes in breast tissue, and the mammogram can be referred to later for comparison.
Benefits of Digital Mammography
Better visibility at the skin line
Digital images give better visibility of the breast, particularly near the skin line, chest wall and in women with dense breast tissue. Also, digital images are helpful for women with implants and for imaging patients with known abnormalities.
Greater image flexibility
Your physician will gain viewing options never before possible with the unique ability to enhance certain areas to get a more precise picture of your condition.
Your breast images can be zoomed in and out, and the contrast can be lightened or darkened. Also, through an inverting feature, black can reverse to white and white can change to black. This feature helps detect microcalcifications, which is like revealing a grain of salt in a ball of clay. All these image enhancements help improve diagnostic potential and can be accomplished without your presence in the room.
Shorter exam times and less call-backs
A digital mammography exam usually takes less than half the time of traditional film-based exam, and there's less of a chance you'll be called back to retake your images.
Faster results
Your physician can send your digital images anywhere in the world electronically to be viewed on a workstation by another physician.

How to request digital mammography images:
1) Call the Dorothy Mangurian Comprehensive Women’s Center at 954-351-7800
or
2) Fax your request to 954-229-8047 with the following information:
- Patient’s Name
- Date of birth
- Contact Phone Number
- Which record/image you are requesting
You may request to pick up your records/images or have your records mailed to you. If you would like to pick-up your records/images, please allow at least 24-hour notice for processing. Patients will be notified when the records/images are ready for pick-up.
