Stemless Shoulder Replacement at Holy Cross Orthopedic Research Institute

Stemless Shoulder Replacement at Holy Cross Orthopedic Research Institute

The Holy Cross Orthopedic Research Institute in Fort Lauderdale, FL offers one of the latest advances in shoulder surgery: the stemless shoulder replacement. This implant no longer utilizes a stem to place it inside the canal of the bone and instead has a small cage that fits inside the bone. Holy Cross is one of only six sites in the U.S. that is part of a study to prove that the new stemless shoulder replacement is equally successful as the implant with the stem.

Advantages of stemless implant include the ability to match the patient anatomy perfectly, and if your shoulder replacement for any reason fails and needs to be revised, getting the stem out of the more traditional implant is very challenging. In comparison, taking out the cage in the stemless implant is quite simple.

When it comes to collaborative research and integrating it into clinical practice, Holy Cross Orthopedic Research Institute has been very successful and continues to be dedicated to further research to ensure that we offer the latest technology and treatments to our patients.
