• Holy Cross Hospital Successfully Performs Broward County's First Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement Procedures

  Procedures Utilized New Artificial Heart Valve Recently Approved By The Food And Drug Administration For Patients Who Cannot Undergo Open Heart Surgery

  The cardiology team at Holy Cross Hospital has successfully performed the first transcatheter aortic valve replacements (TAVR) in Broward County. The procedures utilized a first-of-its-kind artificial heart valve that was approved for by the Food and Drug Administration in November for patients who cannot undergo open heart surgery.

• Holy Cross Hospital Names 2011-2012 Volunteers of the Year

  Judith Chiles, Herbert and Phyllis Kaplan receive honor

  Among 791 volunteers who collectively gave 130,000 hours of service to Holy Cross Hospital in 2011, three were honored as the hospital's 2011-2012 Volunteers of the Year: Judith Chiles, who has served 3,900 hours since 2006; Herbert Kaplan, who has given 7,934 hours since 1992; and, who has volunteered 1,051 hours since 2009.

  Critical Care Nurse Moira Sorentrue Receives Honor for 2011-2012

  For her outstanding dedication, loyalty, service and representation of the Holy Cross Hospital mission, philosophy and core values, Moira Sorentrue, BSN, RN, CCRN, of the Holy Cross neuro-surgical intensive care unit, has been named the 2011-2012 Associate of the Year.

• Marti Huizenga Meditation Chapel and Healing Garden Grand Opening

  Women's Center chapel named after philanthropist's generous donation

  This winter, Holy Cross Hospital gratefully received a donation from philanthropist Marti Huizenga in support of the new Dorothy Mangurian Comprehensive Women’s Center at Holy Cross HealthPlex. The grand opening for the Marti Huizenga Meditation Chapel and Healing Garden, named after Marti in recognition of her generosity, was held on May 17, 2012.

• Michael and Dianne Bienes Cancer Center: Highest Enrollment in the Country in Two Phase I Cancer Clinical Trials

  Holy Cross Hospital Michael and Dianne Bienes Comprehensive Cancer Center has achieved the highest enrollment in the country in two Phase I cancer clinical trials. Both IMGN 901 and Abbott M10-338 clinical trials are for patients with Advanced Solid Tumors.

• Holy Cross Hospital Now Offering Pipeline® Embolization Device for Treatment of Aneurysms

  New device offers hope for patients who previously had no other treatment option

  Holy Cross Hospital announced it is now offering the newly FDA-approved Pipeline® Embolization Device for patients who previously had limited treatment options if suffering from a certain type of aneurysm, an abnormal, blood-filled ballooning in the wall of a blood vessel. It is estimated that one in 15 people in the U.S. will develop a brain aneurysm during their lifetime.
