The Moran Challenge
Before his passing, visionary philanthropist Jim Moran, along with his wife, Jan, and JM Family Enterprises, Inc., created a $26-million challenge. Its goal is to assist Holy Cross Hospital in developing the Jim Moran Heart and Vascular Research Institute.
The Jim Moran Heart & Vascular Center at Holy Cross Hospital is committed to being the preeminent provider of cardiovascular care for the people of South Florida. This unparalleled, comprehensive, fully integrated initiative will provide education, prevention, early detection and treatment of cardiac and vascular diseases in a manner consistent with the vision and spirit of the Sisters of Mercy.
The Moran $26-Million Challenge sets a goal to assist Holy Cross Hospital in the development of the Jim Moran Heart and Vascular Research Institute. JM Family Enterprises, Inc., involves the community by matching $1 to every $1.60 that is contributed.
The Morans' history of giving to the Sisters of Mercy and Holy Cross Hospital began in the '70s with the first of many cars donated to the Sisters, and continued through the late '80s when they donated $1 million for the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit after Jim had open-heart surgery at Holy Cross," said Sister Marjorie Bosse, RSM, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Holy Cross Health Ministries.
"In the '90s, the Morans made several sizeable contributions that were earmarked for the Cancer Center," Bossee added. "A plaque in memory of Jim's mother, Anna Moran, is displayed in the Radiation Therapy patient waiting room. The Morans' benevolence has touched the health and welfare of many in Broward County and this Challenge will be remembered as part of their legacy. We are deeply grateful for their generosity."
