Holy Cross Hospital Names New Executive Director of Research

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Holy Cross Hospital President and CEO Patrick A. Taylor, M.D. announced that Paul Papagni, J.D., has joined the hospital as executive director of clinical research. 

“Paul has a stellar background in clinical research operations with some of the finest medical industry leaders in the country,” Dr. Taylor said. “Holy Cross Hospital is very fortunate to have him oversee our developing research programs as we move forward in our commitment to innovative and ground-breaking medical advances."

Prior to joining Holy Cross Hospital, Papagni served as vice president of research administration and compliance at the Statewide Clinical Trials Network of Texas. He has extensive Institutional Review Board (IRB) experience, having also served as the executive director of clinical research at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, director of the IRB at the UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, NJ, administrative director of the IRB at Columbia University in New York City, and as the first executive director of the IRB at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio. An active member of the Massachusetts Bar and admitted to practice in federal district court, Papagni received his juris doctor from the Suffolk University School of Law in Boston and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts. 

Research institutions at Holy Cross include the Jim Moran Heart and Vascular Research Institute, a cardiovascular research center specializing in leading-edge clinical trials for the diagnosis and treatment of heart, coronary artery and vascular diseases, and the Holy Cross Orthopedic Research Institute, nationally recognized as a pioneer in introducing new orthopedic surgery techniques and establishing key protocols for orthopedic rehabilitation. The Michael and Dianne Bienes Comprehensive Cancer Center also has a research department actively involved in oncology research.
