FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – To raise awareness and increase emergency preparedness, Holy Cross Hospital will host a free safety fair on Monday, June 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Holy Cross Hospital is located at 4725 North Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale, and the fair will be held in the hospital's Sister Innocent Conference Center.

Taking place at the start of hurricane season, the event features representatives from Florida Power & Light Company who will offer tips on electrical safety during a storm while the Broward County Emergency Management Department will present information on hurricane preparedness.

June is also National Safety month and the Fort Lauderdale police department will educate fair-goers on personal safety.  Information on community resources will also be available from Women in Distress.

Florida Highway Patrol will be on hand with its popular interactive seatbelt simulator that recreates the impact of a moving vehicle forced into a complete stop. In another effort to raise awareness of safety on the roads, Broward County Traffic Engineers will offer expert advice about driving and running on the roadways.

Other participants include Holy Cross Hospital, which will offer general safety information and ID Theft prevention information and Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue’s display of a fire truck and ambulance.
