Holy Cross Hospital Adds Gastroenterologist
Emad Abuhamda, MD joins Holy Cross Medical Group
Holy Cross Hospital President and CEO Patrick A. Taylor, M.D. announced that Emad M. Abuhamda, M.D., FACG has joined the Holy Cross Medical Group, a multi-specialty physician employed group of more than 150 physicians providing services throughout Broward and Palm Beach counties.
Board-certified in gastroenterology and hepatology, Dr. Abuhamda is experienced in using the Olympus EUS System for endoscopic ultrasound imaging of the digestive tract and surrounding tissues and organs. The technology has proved useful in applications such as tissue sample collection using fine needle aspiration (FNA), aspiration of lymph nodes and cysts, and administration of certain therapies, such as the celiac plexus block and neurolysis. The ability to visually guide FNA makes the Olympus EUS System an advanced, minimally invasive alternative to exploratory surgery.
Prior to joining the Holy Cross Medical Group, Dr. Abuhamda was a staff gastroenterologist at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri and Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. A member of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology, he has been published in numerous medical journals and presented medical lectures at various gastrointestinal meetings.
Dr. Abuhamda completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, a gastroenterology fellowship with a subspecialty in endoscopic ultrasound at the University of Texas and MD Anderson Cancer Center, and a fellowship in advanced therapeutic endoscopy and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, where he also served as a clinical instructor. He received his Bachelor of Medical Sciences from Kuwait University and his medical degree from the University of Jordan.
