Girlfriend's Club Hosts Brunch for Dorothy Mangurian Comprehensive Women's Center at Holy Cross
Fort Lauderdale, FL - The Girlfriend’s Club of the Dorothy Mangurian Comprehensive Women’s Centerrecently hosted a lovely brunch to introduce the community to the Dottie’s Mother’s Day Match and to the physicians and staff at the Women’s Center.
During the brunch, Doreen Koenig, who along with Sheri Whittington and Monica Maroone head the Community Leadership Committee for the Dorothy Mangurian Comprehensive Women’s Center, announced that the Harry T. Mangurian, Jr. Foundation will match each Girlfriend’s Club pledge made during the month of May, up to $50,000 through the Dottie’s Mother’s Day Match. The Girlfriend’s Club is made up of women in the community who each pledged $5,000 as lifetime, founding members in support of the Dorothy Mangurian Comprehensive Women’s Center at the Holy Cross HealthPlex.
“We are so grateful to the Harry T. Mangurian, Jr. Foundation for this generous donation and for their continued support,” said Koenig. “The Dorothy Mangurian Comprehensive Women’s Center is so important to our community. We could not have done this without our donors and our Girlfriend’s Club.”
The names of more than 130 members of the Girlfriend’s Club are etched in glass in the lobby of the Women’s Center. Once the goal of 200 Girlfriends has been reached, the display will represent a “Million Dollar” wall.
“This is your center,” Dr. Patrick Taylor, CEO and president of Holy Cross Hospital, told guests. “Doreen, Monica and Sheri have done a brilliant job spearheading the efforts to get this Women’s Center built and our community is a better place thanks to their efforts.”
The brunch took place in the 40,000 square feet of unfinished space that will become Phase 2 and 3 as Holy Cross creates a medical spa, meditation chapel, lifestyle center, education center, meeting rooms and a café.
Dr. Anele Manfredini, Dr. Howard Rubinson and Dr. Moises Lichtinger, all affiliated with the Women’s Center, were on hand to answer questions. Guests also were invited to take tours.
The Women’s Center, which is funded entirely through philanthropy, opened Phase 1 in September 2010 with the Jan Moran Reception Suite and the Jeane M. Dorini Women’s Imaging and Diagnostic Suite which serves as the nucleus of this comprehensive center, offering advanced breast imaging including digital mammography, minimally invasive diagnostic procedures, stereotactic breast biopsy, bone density studies and ultrasonography.
