| Meet John… John is a 55-year-old retired Navy SEAL who used to run marathons, was so weak from a series of heart attacks that he couldn’t even walk more than a few hundred yards without having to rest. John suffers from myocardial ischemia, a painful and debilitating condition caused by a weakened heart muscle. With so much of his life left to live, it seemed that there had to be a solution. After many treatments at other facilities, John found Holy Cross Hospital and it was here that he was given the chance he was looking for, thanks to a man named Jim Moran. While we all feel a great loss with the recent passing of Jim Moran, his legacy lives on through the lifesaving work being done at Holy Cross in the field of heart and vascular medicine, work that is helping people like John. In 2006, the Morans and JM Family Enterprises created the "$26 Million Challenge" to establish The Jim Moran Heart and Vascular Research Institute. The Institute is one of 20 sites nationally – and the only site in South Florida – selected by Baxter Healthcare Corporation for participation in a groundbreaking study in the U.S. that could provide a breakthrough in the treatment of heart disease. John is the first South Florida patient to receive this groundbreaking new treatment for his weakened heart. For the first time, he now has real hope that he’ll feel stronger every day, and be able to celebrate a joyous Holiday Season with his family and friends. To support the Moran Challenge and take part in this rare opportunity to do something truly special for the people of South Florida, please click here. |
