Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) at Holy Cross Hospital
Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) at Holy Cross Hospital
Holy Cross is one of the few South Florida hospitals that offers Endoscopic Ultrasound, which combines ultrasound technology with endoscopy to better visualize the tissues of the digestive tract and adjacent anatomical structures inside the human body. This technology results in more detailed pictures of the GI tract, including the esophagus, stomach, duodenum (first part of the small bowel) and colon as well as surrounding tissues and organs such as the pancreas, gallbladder, liver and spleen. Emad Abuhamda, MD (Holy Cross Medical Group, Gastroenterology) is trained in the multidisciplinary field of endosonography and uses this technology in various applications, including to help stage cancers such as esophageal, gastric, rectal and pancreatic cancers; diagnose diseases of internal organs; locate common bile duct stones; and evaluate masses in the submucosal lining of the GI tract or in enlarged stomach folds, to name a few.
