Career Development Resources in The Learning Center
Today the nature of success is no longer defined by the concept of "moving up the ladder." More dimensions now measure career growth. Some paths include Lateral Transfers, Downward Transfers or Upward Advancement. Some Associates have found it useful to move downward to position themselves in an area that will offer greater advancement opportunities or a better job fit. This type of movement may provide Associates with a better balance between work, family and other personal interests. No matter what your needs or goals, The Learning Center can assist with the stages of your career mapping.
Exploration Stage
During this stage, The Learning Center can assist with exploring various careers. You may be given assessments that can be helpful in guiding you to careers that best suit your talents. The trick is finding careers that match skills and interests. To achieve this goal, a Learning Center representative can arrange for a "shadow program" where one Associate follows another who is already working in the position to confirm that the right decision is being made.
Establishment Stage
During this stage, an Associate has already selected a position of interest. The Learning Center representative can then map out the educational requirements needed in order to obtain that type of position. The representative can also assist in selecting the school to include the hospital tuition benefits that will assist the Associate.
Maintenance Stage
This is the final stage of the development program and in it, the Associate may wish to become more focused on gaining seniority within their chosen field and achieving recognition as a subject expert or mentor to other Associates. The Learning Center representative can provide coaching and suggest in-house courses, as well as identifying possible opportunities to assist in reaching their goals. You may pick up the outline booklet which shows the many careers for which Human Resources frequently recruit. Schools are listed that offer the training needed to obtain such positions. Many of the job families offer career ladders that provide promotional opportunities. Whatever your goals may be, we hope that you will find The Learning Center at Holy Cross Hospital a valuable benefit to you as an Associate.
