What You Can Expect
Did you know that 75% of all surgeries do not require an overnight stay in the hospital? So, if you are facing a surgical procedure, ask your doctor about HealthPlex and experience the comfort of knowing you are in good hands.

The Ambulatory Surgery Center at HealthPlex was designed for the comfort and convenience of our patients and physicians.  With the latest in surgery suite design and state-of-the-art equipment, you will find every feature of the surgery area to be the most patient-friendly that you have ever experienced. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call the Surgery Department at 954-958-0612.

What Happens Before Surgery

  • In order for HealthPlex to continuously keep low patient wait-times, please arrive at the time scheduled for you. Your scheduled time may be found on the back of your Outpatient Surgery brochure, on your appointment card, or by calling 954-958-0612.
  • Please do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your surgery.
  • You may brush your teeth, but please do not swallow water.
  • If you have developed a sign of a cold or infection prior to your surgical procedure, please notify your physician.
  • If you smoke, please do not do so after midnight the night before your surgery.
  • A consent for your surgical procedure must be signed before any medication can be given to you, so please confirm that your physician has your form on file.
  • On the day of your procedure, please have a responsible adult, who has a driver’s license and can operate a car, with you. That person must accompany you to HealthPlex and be present when you are ready to leave.
  • Please leave your jewelry, valuables, and hair pieces at home. If you wear contact lenses, please bring a case for safekeeping.
  • We want you to be as comfortable as possible, so please wear comfortable clothing. We will provide you with a patient gown.

Prior to your visit, our associates will contact you regarding your financial responsibilities and to confirm your scheduled surgery time.  When you arrive, our friendly registration staff will have you sign the necessary forms and collect required payments or co-payments, if applicable.

After you have been prepared for a procedure, you will be taken to one of HealthPlex’s operating or procedure suites for surgery.  Immediately following the procedure, patients are taken to Phase I Recovery, where you will peacefully wake in one of our monitored beds. Once you emerge from your anesthesia and show normal vital signs, you are transferred to Phase II Recovery, where you will wait in comfortable beds and/or lounging chairs. You will be offered beverages and snacks while being provided with post-operation instructions. While you wait to be discharged, you may listen to music, watch television, or visit with family.

What Happens After Surgery

  • You may receive additional information from your physician and/or the Surgical Department at HealthPlex. It may be helpful for the adult driver accompanying you to bring a small bag to hold your paperwork, instructions, and belongings.
  • Your physician will authorize your discharge from the Surgery Department.
  • It is important to follow the doctors instructions regarding diet, rest, and medication.
  • Remember, it is not unusual to feel dizzy and sleepy after your surgical procedure, but always stay alert to your symptoms, and please call your doctor immediately if any complications arise.
  • In the event that your physician cannot be reached, you may call the Surgery Department Monday through Friday between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm at 954-958-0612.
  • For the first 24 hours following a procedure, it is advisable not to drive or make important decisions.
  • The billing statement that you will receive from HealthPlex will be easy to read and understand. This, however, does not include surgeon, consulting physician, and anesthesiologist fees. Those will be handled in a separate manner.

Transportation

For your safety and the safety of others, you will no be able to drive yourself home following your procedure.  It is very important, and a state regulation, that you are accompanied home by a responsible adult who can assist you.  If you have no other means of transportation, HealthPlex can coordinate a taxi service for you as long as a responsible adult is able to meet you to assist you in getting out of the taxi cab and settled in at home.  If needed, HealthPlex can assist you in making arrangements with a home health agency to have an aide assist you for a few hours following your procedure  (additional charges apply and are not covered by most insurance companies).

Always Remember…We encourage you to call us at any time with questions if your physician is unavailable. Our number, once again, is 954-958-0612.
