11 Year-Old Donates $600 to the Holy Cross Michael and Dianne Bienes Comprehensive Cancer Center

Donation was made in honor of a friend who recently passed away

The Holy Cross Hospital Michael and Dianne Bienes Comprehensive Cancer Center received an unexpected donation recently that was personal, heartfelt and lovingly made by an 11 year-old in remembrance of a family friend who passed away.

Steve Langsenkamp, a close family friend of Kassidy Angelo’s family passed away following a battle with small-cell lung cancer. He was a patient at the Holy Cross Hospital Michael and Dianne Bienes Comprehensive Cancer Center.

“I was looking for a way to help others who are fighting cancer,” said Angelo, a Fort Lauderdale resident. “So we decided to hold a bake sale at Bayview Park in Coral Ridge to raise funds for cancer research.”

With the help of schoolmates Savannah Stocker and Lauren Shamie, Angelo began planning, working and baking for their fundraiser, which resulted in raising $600 for the Michael and Dianne Bienes Comprehensive Cancer Center.

“I’m sure that Steve is watching us and is proud of Kassidy for all of her efforts,” says Martin Gutierrez, MD, medical director of the Holy Cross Hospital Michael and Dianne Bienes Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Angelo does not plan on stopping there. She has future plans for traveling bake sales and other school fundraising events in support of cancer research.
